Electrical systems specialist Alewijnse joins the Oceanco Group

Alewijnse, a leading electrical systems integrator, has been acquired by Gabe Newell of the Oceanco Group, strengthening the Group’s capabilities and uniting companies that share a commitment to innovation and long-term impact.
Alewijnse, operating for over 135 years, specialises in electrical engineering and automation, working with yachting, naval and governmental, dredging, offshore and transport industries, as well as the industrial sector. Services offered include design, consultancy, systems integration, navigation, alarm and monitoring solutions.
It has been a portfolio company of Strong Root Capital for the past seven years.
With offices worldwide, including Spain, The Netherlands and Vietnam, it focuses on sustainability whilst increasing productivity and lowering operational costs.
Alewijnse will continue to operate as an independent company within the Oceanco Group, retaining its own identity, client relationships and market position. Working alongside Oceanco and Gabe Newell will enable Alewijnse to expand its expertise and accelerate innovation with smart and sustainable technological solutions.
Gert Bravenboer, Alewijnse CEO, said:
“This marks an exciting new chapter for Alewijnse. Electrical systems integration is at the heart of modern yachting and maritime operations, and as part of the Oceanco Group, we can build on our expertise and lead in a rapidly evolving sector.”
Oceanco, one of the world’s leading custom yacht builders based in Alblasserdam in The Netherlands, was recently acquired by computer game entrepreneur Gabe Newell.
Marcel Onkenhout, Oceanco CEO, commented:
“With Alewijnse joining the Group, we have the opportunity to develop new solutions and innovations that serve not only yachting, but also other maritime sectors.”
Oceanco and Alewijnse have been working together on yacht projects since the 1990s, sharing a vision for technological innovation and reliability.
Patrick Zanders, Strong Root Capital Partner, said:
“Over the past seven years, we have had the pleasure of supporting the management of Alewijnse. The company has developed a clear vision for the future and secured a solid position in the market. We are therefore proud that, with Oceanco and Gabe Newell, a new owner has been found who will continue to build on this. This is without a doubt the right step at the right time.”
The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant authorities.
Bravenboer concluded:
“We are proud of what we have achieved at Alewijnse over the past years. Joining the Oceanco Group is a logical step in the further development of our organisation. We are strengthening our market position without compromising our own identity. Electrical systems integration is at the heart of our maritime and industrial segments. Together with Oceanco and Gabe Newell, we can further build on our leading expertise and see great opportunities to realise our long-term ambitions.”
